Head over to the William B. Umstead State Park, an enormous natural area with trails for hiker, bikers, and horseback riders. Umstead is also known for its Big Lake, where you can rent a canoe to spend a leisurely afternoon paddling the waters. In addition to Big Lake, you’ll find Sycamore Lake and Reedy Creek Lake, which are perfect for fishing.
Raleigh residents are lucky to have an active Parks and Recreation Department that hosts fun events, expertly maintains its many outdoor areas, and manages fitness programs and other opportunities for getting out and getting active! Raleigh is home to over 200 parks, so there’s plenty of ways to get outside in the City of Oaks.

Hispanic heritage events, a festival dedicated to bugs, an enormous three-day music festival that takes over Downtown Raleigh… this city knows how to have a good time. One thing is for sure: you’ll never have a hard time finding something fun to do on the weekends in Raleigh.
