A Guide to the Triangle: The Top 5 Events Happening in March

If you asked us to sum up the past few weeks in the Triangle, we would say one thing: rainy. But with spring just a few weeks away, we’re hoping that sunnier skies are around the corner.

Rain or shine, there’s still plenty of options to occupy your time around the Raleigh area. There are some major events happening this month, so be sure to mark them on your calendars!

8th Annual Snow Day

Two kids sledding down a hill.Didn’t you hear? There are a few inches of snow in the forecast for Cary this weekend! Well, sort of. The 8th Annual Snow Day will be kicking off at Waverly Place, where you can find sledding hills, snowballs, live music, and tons of family-friendly activities.

Although you’ll have to snag a ticket to go sledding, purchasing one gets you a full one hour, snow-filled session. In between hitting the hills, there’ll also be cornhole, giant connect four, giveaways, trampolines, and music from DJ Gary Gibson.

NC Comicon

Spiderman reading a book.Celebrity guests, tons of vendors and exhibitors, cosplay, panels, and more—NC Comicon is a celebration of all things comics, video games, movies, TV, pop culture, and everything in between. This year is full of all new surprises and is promised to be bigger and badder than before.

Some of the big names at this year’s convention include Greg Cipes, voice of popular Teen Titans character Beast Boy, director Jim Wynorski, and comic book artist David Finch. As far as vendors and exhibitors go, you’ll find a wide variety of comic book stores, collectables, vintage toys, and handmade art. Tickets are on-sale online, so grab yours today!

25th Annual Reptile & Amphibian Day

A toad in water.All fans of creatures and critters: gather around! The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will be hosting their 25th Annual Reptile and Amphibian Day this month. The theme animal this time around? Toads.

This toad-ally fun event will feature presentations in the Daily Planet Theater and the Windows on the World stage, tons of exhibits with live animals and toads of all kinds, and family-friendly crafts and activities. If you sign up for a museum membership during the event, you’ll even get a free t-shirt and discount in the gift store—not to mention access to an exclusive animal feeding!

Cary Kite Festival

two kites flying in the sky.Go fly a kite (in a good way) at the popular annual Cary Kite Festival! Bring along your own kite and enter the variety of kite-flying competitions, made to accommodate all levels and ages of kite flyers. Winners in each category will receive special prizes and certificates!

Need some technique tips? There will be an expert kite flyer on-site to offer up the best tips and tricks of the trade and help with minor kite modifications. In addition to the kite flying festivities, the park will also be full of live music, concession stands, and other family-friendly activities.

Raleigh St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival

A man with bagpipes and a kilt.Get your green ready to go, and celebrate St. Paddy’s Day with the rest of the Triangle community. The Raleigh St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival takes over Downtown Raleigh this month, celebrating all things Irish. What started as a small celebration in the ’80s has grown into a major area event, now celebrating its 37th year!

This year’s parade kicks off at 10AM and features marching bands full of bag pipes, decked out floats, local businesses, and Grand Marshal Don “Big Weather” Schwenneker, a meteorologist for ABC 11 Eyewitness News. After the parade ends, stick around for the festival, where you’ll find live music, dancing, family-friendly activities, vendors and craft booths, and tons of tasty food and drink.
