Have Some Unbe-leaf-able Fun at These Triangle Fall Events

The official end of summer is just a few weeks away, and fall is right around the corner. With a new season comes (hopefully) cooler temperatures, the changing of leaves, and plenty of fun seasonal events.

Whether it’s an Oktoberfest celebration, a harvest festival, or a party filled with wine and cheese, these upcoming highlights around the Triangle will keep you busy for the next month!

BugFest

When: September 21st, 9am – 7pm

Where: NC Museum of Natural Sciences

What: This year, BugFest is all about beetles. Exhibits, crafts, games, activities—you’ll find over 100 things to do. Every year, more than 30,000 people come to the museum to celebrate, chatting with entomologists and other scientists, trying out some buggy dishes, and enjoying the free fun.

Gizmo’s Oktoberfest Party

When: September 21st, 12pm – 10pm

Where: Gizmo Brew Works

What: Ringing in its second year, Gizmo brewery celebrates the season with lederhosen, live music, and plenty of local beer. Other highlights include axe throwing, food trucks, and special seasonal brew releases!

Pullen Park Scarecrow Festival

When: September 28th, 9am – 12pm

Where: Pullen Park Picnic Area

What: Do you want to build a scarecrow? It’s the fall version of a snowman! Come out to the Pullen Park Scarecrow Festival, where supports and stuffing material will be provided, and bring along some clothes and accessories for your scarecrow. Each scarecrow will remain in Pullen Park for as long as the weather permits!

Wendell Harvest Festival

When: October 5th, 10am – 10pm

Where: Wendell Town Square

What: Over 100 local vendors, a parade, live music, a kids’ zone, tons of food trucks and a beer tent—the Wendell Harvest Festival is one big seasonal celebration.

NC Wine, Cheese, & Chocolate Festival

When: October 12th, 12pm – 6pm

Where: Lafayette Village

What: Prepare your palate for some of the finest flavors on earth—the NC Wine, Cheese, & Chocolate Festival is filled with local and regional delights. Plus, you can also expect live music, demonstrations, and plenty of shopping!

FestiFall Arts Festival

When: October 12th, 11am – 3pm

Where: Downtown Chapel Hill

What: The FestiFall Arts Festival is all about celebrating creativity in the community. Come on out and support local artists, browse the wares from crafters, and check out a few demonstrations in the Open Air Studio!

NC State Fair

When: October 17th – 27th

Where: NC State Fairgrounds

What: Of course, you can’t have fall around the Triangle without the NC State Fair! While the new foods and rides for the year haven’t been announced yet, considering what last year brought—like candied bacon s’mores, Crack-n-Cheese in a waffle cone, and an arepa burger—we’ve got pretty high hopes.

Triangle Oktoberfest

When: October 18th – 19th

Where: Cary’s Booth Ampitheatre

What: The largest Oktoberfest celebration in the state, the Triangle Oktoberfest started just six years ago, but has exploded in popularity—and it’s easy to see why. With everything from live Polka music to hammer-striking competitions to a wiener dog parade, the Oktoberfest is full of fun (and beer).
